人はみな、語るべき物語を持っています。私たちは聞き手を見つけると、すぐに自由に自分の物語を語ることができます。そのような機会に、私たちは本当の自分になる傾向があります。コミュニケーションが生まれ、それがより大きく深い友情へと発展することもあります。
このプロセスは、ヨハネによる福音書の最初の章にも見られます。洗礼者ヨハネは、イエスを救い主、または油を注がれた者 (キリスト) として認識した最初の人物です。彼は、福音史家ヨハネを含む2人の弟子にイエスを指し示しました。するとイエスは、その2人の弟子を「来て、見なさい」と招きました。弟子たちはイエスと時間を共にし、イエスを知るようになりました。弟子たちはその経験に非常に感銘を受けたので、友人たちを招き、彼らもイエスの弟子となったのです。
私たち自身の物語に戻りましょう。私たちには３つの次元があります。１つ目は、誕生から現在まで続く私たち自身の個人的な物語です。２つ目は、家族、教育環境、人生における仕事など、私たちが属するさまざまな集団の物語です。これら2つの次元について、私たちはよく認識しています。
３番目の次元は宇宙の物語です。私たちはその中のどこに当てはまるのでしょうか。それは人間の次元を超え、宇宙全体を包み込むものです。宇宙の物語は、実は宇宙のキリストの物語なのです。イエスは、神の創造を通して神の愛を私たちに明らかにし、私たちを神の栄光に招くために遣わされたお方です。宇宙全体はキリストのうちに結び合わされ、その目的はキリストにおいてひとつになることなのです。
福音史家ヨハネと聖パウロは、ともに復活したキリストとの出会いと体験を通して、神学を発展させました。私たちを暗闇と罪から解放するために命を捧げられた苦しむ救い主であるイエスは、私たちを神のすべての創造物との交わりに招いてくださいました。ですから、祈りの中で、そして日々の生活で起こっていることに対する私たちの応答の中で、私たちは神の愛ある配慮を経験し、それに参加するようになるのです。神の言葉と聖霊は、私たちのガイドであり、私たちの心を広げ、自我を乗り越えさせ、私たちの世話を必要とする人々に手を差し伸べる真の自分に従う強さを与えてくれます。
私たちが祝うイースターの神秘は、イエスの模範に倣い、神を信頼し、神の御国を地上と天上に実現させる希望を持つことにほかなりません。復活したキリストがあなたの心を照らし、あなたの物語の3つの次元に、奥行きと息吹、そして意味を与えてくださいますように。
Christ is risen

Every human being has stories to tell. When we find a listener we immediately find ourselves free to tell our stories. We tend to become our true selves on those occasions. Communication takes place and may lead to greater and deeper friendships.
We find that process taking place in the first chapter of St. John’s gospel. John the Baptist is the first to recognize Jesus as the Messiah or anointed one ( Christ ). Having pointed out Jesus to two of his followers, one of whom was John the evangelist, Jesus invites the two disciple to come and see. So they spent some time with Jesus getting to know him. They were so impressed with what they experienced that they invited their friends, and they too became followers of Jesus.
Let me return to our own stories. We have three dimensions. The first is our own personal story beginning with our birth and continuing to the present time. We also have our story, which comprises all the different grouping that we belong to such as family, educational upbringing, life’s work. These first two dimensions we are consciously aware of.
The third dimension is the universe story and where do we fit into it. It goes beyond the human dimension and embraces the whole cosmos. The cosmic story is in reality the story of the cosmic Christ. Jesus is the one sent by God to reveal to us the love of God through his creation and to inviting us to share in the glory of God. The whole of the cosmos is held together in Christ and the purpose of the cosmos is to become one in Christ.
Both St. John the evangelist and St. Paul, both of whom developed their theology from the risen Christ and their experience of encountering the risen Christ. Jesus, the suffering messiah, who gave of his life to set us free from darkness and sin, invited us into communion with all of God’s creation. So it is in prayer and in our responsive actions to what is happening in our daily lives that we come to experience God’s loving care and share in it. The word of God and the Holy Spirit are our guides helping us to expand our hearts, overcoming our own egos and giving us the strength to follower out true selves reaching out to those in need of our care.
The Easter Mystery that we celebrate, following the example of Jesus, trusting in God, hoping to bring about God’s kingdom here on earth and in heaven. May the Risen Christ enlighten your heart to give length, breath and meaning to the three dimensions of your story.
